The CRAFT method

Why we built CRAFT.

Most advice jumps straight to the fix: generic productivity advice that ignores the person, and pure introspection that never reaches the work. CRAFT is our answer—one repeatable shape that holds both.

The path, step by step

Five moves, adapted to you.

We follow the same five moves each time and adapt them to whatever you bring. Here is what actually happens at each one—and the research it leans on.

C

Clarify

First we work out what is genuinely stuck—and whether the problem you named is the real one. It is easy to fixate on a single idea when other routes exist; sometimes the honest move is a change of medium, a different project, or stepping back from a version of the work that stopped fitting.12

Often the deeper question is not about the task at all but about who you are as a creative. That was true for our own founder, whose block turned out to be direction, not ability.

R

Regulate

Before pushing for output we read your state—flooded, empty or regulated—and bring it back into range. Both over-activation and depletion narrow the very thinking creative work needs, so demanding more effort in the wrong state usually makes the block worse, not better.4,6,15

A

Address

Then we choose a response that fits you—because we do not address everyone the same way. Some of your terrain is relatively fixed and some is movable, and reading which is which stops us prescribing one answer for everyone. The same block in two people can need opposite first moves.3,7,8

In practice that means picking between coaching the person, consulting on the project, teaching a missing skill, redesigning a system, recovery, or referral—often a blend.

F

Form

Insight that stays in the room changes nothing. So we shape it into something concrete: a decision, a small experiment, or a specific change to how you work. Turning understanding into a doable next action is what starts to rebuild a sense of agency over the work.8,17

T

Test

You try it in real work, and we learn from what actually happens rather than what we assumed. Some moves need time away to settle before they pay off; others reveal that the first hypothesis was wrong, and we adjust. We repeat until you can do it without us.10,14

The point of it

Structure without a rigid recipe.

CRAFT is a shape, not a script. It keeps the enquiry useful and repeatable while staying flexible enough to meet a real person and a real project. (CRAFT the method is not "craft", the Process-domain problem.) There is no honour in using the wrong tool consistently.

Questions

About the method.

No—it is a shape, not a script. It keeps the enquiry useful and adapts to whatever you bring; the order holds, but the weight shifts block to block.

A handful. Many people leave the first session with a usable next move; deeper patterns take a few to shift.

We follow the shape, but some blocks need more regulating, others more addressing—we spend the time where the mechanism is.

Whichever fits the mechanism—often a blend, and sometimes teaching a missing skill or referring on.

Start with the why.
